Babysitters are entrusted with a parent's most prized possession: their child.
Modern babysitters have a lot to do -- they need to manage their clients, keep kids entertained, and act as a stand in for absent parents.
I decided to create Babysittify.
Babysittify is a suite of tools that provide support to babysitters that helps them to manage their client relationships, find ways to entertain and engage children, and make choices parents would approve of.
"How much should I charge?"
Problem: Babysitters need a way to feel empowered to negotiate for a fare hourly wage.
Solution: Babysitters use a wage calculator based on level of experience, travel time, and amount of responsibility to determine how much they earn.
Extra features: a tool to keep track of hours and a direct payment method from a client.
Skills practiced: interface development, Sketch, HTML, Javascript, CSS
"What do kids like to play? I have no idea."
Problem: Babysitters need a way to entertain children for hours without much prep time.
Solution: Babysitters use the What's Next tool to find games that are customized to the child.
Other possible problems: a tool to help an overworked Mom schedule tasks she needs help with.
Skills practiced: time-based storytelling, sketching, Adobe Illustrator
"It's time to clean up. I need you start putting away your toys now!"
Problem: Babysitters and parents need a way to gently mark the passage of time so task completion is celebrated.
Solution: Babysitters and parents can use the Blooming Lamp to make a visual representation for how long a task should take. One of the features of the Babysittify Suite is a timer that is can time how long it takes for the lamp to bloom.
Other problems: the lamp can also indicate how far Mom and Dad are from home when they connect it to their GPS.
Skills practiced: physical prototyping, rendering
"Where are the special treats? Where are the diapers?"
Problem: Babysitters need a way to know parent-specific knowledge like where there are extra diapers or special treats.
Solution: Babysitters use the Where is it? AR tool to discover where to find hidden objects .
Future iterations on the app: an add-on to the tool where parents can hide secret messages about objects in the house.
Skills practiced: User Testing

This portfolio reflects the work I did in my studio class. I based all of my projects on my first job: babysitting.
